FOEDUS

Saving lives

foedus case study - applifting

Foedus is a simple tool that enables swift international exchange of transplant organs. Since its launch in 2013, it has helped save hundreds of lives.

Skills deployed

  • Backend - Java
  • Frontend - Angular

MISSION: FASTER RECIPIENT SEARCH

Transplantation is often the only way to save someone’s life.

However, human organs are only viable for transplant for a few hours. So speed is key when matching them with a suitable recipient.

Foedus was set up to facilitate the international sharing of information on available organs and to replace an outdated system which relied on phone calls and text messages.

CHALLENGE: LIMITED RESOURCES

The budget for updating the web app and creating a new mobile application was limited...

...as was the dedicated manpower. It was, therefore, necessary to work very efficiently and systematically.

SOLUTION: A FAST AND RELIABLE TOOL

We digitized the original paper database...

...and created a simple application with an emphasis on reliability. This succeeded in simplifying and accelerating the process of international donor organ exchange. In addition, we helped the participating countries save tens of millions of euros that they would otherwise have had to pay to Eurotransplant.

Applifting rose to the challenge of delivering a capable and reliable tool within a very tight budget. The results speak for themselves — our platform saves 5 lives per month, on average.
