Jablotron builds security systems used by homes and businesses across 130 countries. After modernising the cloud infrastructure behind their platform together in 2018, we took on a new challenge: a full rebuild of MyJABLOTRON, the app a million people rely on to manage alarms, check cameras, and keep an eye on their home security.

Mission

Rebuild the foundation without losing what works

The goal was to give the security app a completely new foundation, without disrupting the experience users already knew.

We were working as part of a joint team with Jablotron's own developers and an external partner. The new architecture had to be flexible and modular at its core, so connecting new hardware in the future wouldn't require rebuilding the whole system from scratch.

Challenge

Building something that stays useful tomorrow

A security app has little room for error. It needs to work reliably across thousands of device types, handle sensitive data with care, and be dependable when users are worried about their safety. On top of that, Jablotron's product range keeps growing, so the architecture had to be genuinely future-proof, not just flexible enough to survive the next release.

Solution

A modular app built to last

The rebuilt app launched with a cleaner design and broader device support. We added an extensive range of home screen widgets so users can manage their security system without opening the app, and built a live camera stream player that lets them see what's happening at home in real time.

We also set up automated screenshot testing. After every update, the system scans all screens in the app and flags anything that looks different from the approved design, without anyone having to click through the whole app by hand. The result: faster, more confident releases.

From the start, we also pushed for proper user research before any decisions got locked in, which eventually led to a beta programme where real users helped shape the product as it evolved. Alongside that, we helped Jablotron build out their own internal development team, so the product could continue developing under their ownership.
